The countdown to the most important decision of this decade has begun - the UN Climate Summit COP15 in December 2009. The next global treaty will be decided in Copenhagen, with huge implications for businesses and citizens. Climate change can be the biggest financial risk in the future; at the same time, the challenges can be converted into the greatest financial opportunity of all times. New solutions are urgently needed, and the year towards COP 15 is critical.

The Climate Community will go live in December 2008, providing a collaborative platform to stimulate innovation and good practice. Here the "willing and the able" can to push for the necessary changes and innovations.


The Climate Community is a unique Web 2.0 interactive universe, focused on motivating and engaging climate leaders around innovative climate solutions. It exceeds traditional notions of "communities" - interactions, webcasts, and commentaries are some of the features. But the Climate Community offers much more than that. The real value of the Community is that we offer an exclusive platform with a pioneering design, which gives you access to knowledge from leading experts and innovators - from companies that have put innovative products and solutions on the markets to organisations that have engaged in strong climate alliances. The strategies will be presented with selected content, intelligence, analysis, and news pieces, and have a real business value to the users.

The Virtual Summit

The main activity on the Climate Community will be the "Virtual Summit," a 6-month-long series of online events, interviews, and discussions that will culminate in the World Business Summit on Climate Change, in May 2009. The Virtual Summit offers Summit participants an opportunity to be part of an interactive process towards the most significant business/government events in 2009.

On the Virtual Summit, users can:

  • Take part in a living and attractive, global business platform
  • Showcase good practice cases and innovative climate solutions
  • Validate the conclusion of the World Business Summit on Climate Change 24-26 May 2009
  • Meet speakers and participants in World Business Summit on Climate Change in May 2009
  • Engage directly in discussions, interactions, and contact with Summit participants and speakers, and in this way build up a peer networks with world renowned climate leaders
  • Access the Climate Navigator, developed by CITRIS, of University of Berkeley

The interactions will be themed around the Summit Programme. The goal will be to demonstrate how innovative business models, new partnerships and the development of low-carbon can help solve the climate crisis.

Themes for the interactions and live forums will include:

  • How to promote investments in technology RD&D
  • How to promote investments in energy efficiency
  • How to make global carbon markets work
  • Low-carbon competitiveness
  • Business strategies on climate change

Every month, the Climate Community will feature new live forums and interviews. The live forums will be hosted by leading climate experts and opinion makers, including representatives from our strategic partners and sponsors. An exciting element will be the collaboration with CITRIS, Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society, at Berkeley University, California, which will give users access to Climate Navigator. The Climate Navigator is a new tool for a new era in the debate on energy and climate change. It will help lay the groundwork for tomorrow's successful energy and climate technologies.

The live forums will be moderated and monitored by the Community team. The Community team will also select content, news, analysis, insights and commentaries to enrich the interactions with.

Who can join the Climate Community?

The Climate Community will mainly be an exclusive domain for the participants in the World Business Summit on Climate Change. These will be global chief executives, government representatives, scientists, and leading thinkers. In addition, selected stakeholders, who are not participating n the World Business on Climate Change in May 2009 will have access to selected features on the sites, selected discussions, live interviews, newsletters and feeds.

The Climate Community will offer special exclusive services such as:
