On May 26, the Copenhagen Climate Council delivered The Copenhagen Call to Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and UNFCCC chief Yvo de Boer. Today, the Council released a Summary Report for Policymakers, a synthesis of the discussions at the Summit that influenced the Call.
Over three days, May 24-26, 2009, 500 business leaders from some 40 countries met with leading experts, government officials, and NGO representatives at the World Business Summit on Climate Change in Copenhagen.
The objectives of the Summit were to mobilize private sector engagement in the development of the future policy framework on climate change, and to provide constructive ideas and practical proposals to support an ambitious global deal on climate change at COP15 in Copenhagen in December 2009.
The underlying ambition of the Summit was to address the twin challenges of climate change and the economic crisis. Participants at the Summit considered how these risks can be turned into opportunity if business and governments work together, and what policies, incentives, and investments will most effectively stimulate low-carbon growth.
On Tuesday, May 26, at the Summit's closing ceremony, the Council presented these recommendations from global business leaders as collected in The Copenhagen Call to Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and UNFCCC Executive Secretary Yvo de Boer.
Today, the Copenhagen Climate Council released the Summary Report for Policymakers, which gives an overview of the discussions that influenced the Call during the Summit.
This report was prepared by the Copenhagen Climate Council and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP based on working group session summaries from the Summit. It is a synthesis of the discussions at the Summit and does not necessarily reflect the views of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP or the Copenhagen Climate Council.
