Oxfam
Oxfam International is an international group of independent NGOs dedicated to fighting poverty and related injustice around the world. Since primary drive of Oxfam is poverty reduction and identifying the underlying causes of poverty, this guides the whole of the organization's activities in the many different fields of for instance active citizenship, agriculture, trade, aid effectiveness, minority rights, education, emergency responce, HIV/AIDS, and peace, among others.
Oxfam's approach to climate change takes departure in the view that though climate change has severe effects to all humans, it will affect the poorest people first and most. The work of Oxfam thus aims both to counter climate change by reducing emissions of greenhouse gasses on a global scale, and to build up emergency preparedness in the poorest countries.
Working Method
Oxfam primarily works through local organizations, seeking to strengthen their empowerment and capacities. Oxfam has joined together with a coalition of UK-based organisations - the UK Working Group on Climate Change and Development, and has also joined the Stop Climate Chaos campaigning coalition.
