Conservation International

Established in 1987, Conservation International (CI) is a US based organization concerned with the conservation of nature globally. CI is based in Arlington, Virginia, and has 29 field offices in Africa, Asia and the Americas. The mayor project fields of CI are Climate Change, Forests, Oceans, Land Use, Communities, Species and Freshwater. CIs approach to climate change is that preserving nature is one of the most effective, and one of the most overlooked, ways to counter climate change. CIs stated three-year goal to counter climate change is: a) to ensure that the world has the knowledge, experience, and resources to help hundreds of millions of people adapt to climate change; b) to prevent the extinction of more than 100,000 threatened species; and c) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by deforestation in our priority conservation regions by at least 1 billion tons per year, which is 2.5 percent of the total annual global emissions figure.

Working method

CI works to create awareness of issues such as climate change, deforestation and endangered species. Where possible, CI establishes conservation programs to preserve endangered landscape and species. Furthermore, CI seeks to empower local communities to play an active role in the work. The work of the organization builds on partnerships and the application of science.
