The World Energy Council
The World Energy Council (WEC) is a multi-energy international organization covering all types of energy, including coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear, and renewables. Established in 1923, the WEC has now Member Committees established in nearly 100 countries, including most of the largest energy-producing and energy consuming countries. Registrered as a UK charity organization in London, WEC has as its mission to "promote the sustainable supply and use of energy for the greatest benefit of all people". The WEC is governed by the Executive Assembly and has a board of trustees (Officers Council) and three Standing Committees.
WEC operates in three-year cycles, structured around the World Energy Congress which takes place every three years. The 20th WEC World Energy Congress was held in Rome in 2007, and the next will be in Montreal in 2010. The work of the WEC thus incorporates development of common work programmes, organize the World Energy Congress, carry out and support energy events, and to engage in partnerships with other organizations.
