Erik Rasmussen

Founder, Copenhagen Climate Council; CEO and Editor-in-Chief, Monday Morning

"The world is currently heading towards a financial crisis of unprecedented magnitude. This will not be a consequence only of the current global crises on the financial markets, but an inevitable consequence of climate changes. The world’s leaders take upon themselves an immense responsibility if they do not react swiftly and boldly to the dramatic consequences of global warming, which climate leaders such as Professor Steven Chu, member of the Copenhagen Climate Council, warns against today at the Climate Community. They could ultimately lead to complete global economic collapse. But, as the Copenhagen Climate Council also argues, climate change should not only be thought of as a great risk but also a great opportunity for innovation and economic growth."

As founder and CEO of Scandinavia's largest think tank, Monday Morning, Erik Rasmussen is a leading figure in the public debate and media in the Northern countries. This is partly due to the fact that Monday Morning has its own weekly media, Monday Morning Weekly, an intellectual journal directed at decision makers across the political world, in business life and in knowledge institutions. Concurrently, Monday Morning has positioned itself internationally with the establishment of Monday Morning Weekly in Norway and projects in Sweden and other European countries.

In October 2006, the World Economic Forum appointed Erik Rasmussen one of the world's 100 most influential journalists. This appointment entitles him to a membership of the prestigious International Media Council, IMC, established by the World Economic Forum. The objective of this council is to develop a better understanding of the complexity and interrelationship of global challenges and opportunities.

Throughout his career, Erik Rasmussen has held a number of top positions within Danish media. He is a journalist by profession and has supplemented his vocation with studies in the US as well as work experience abroad and publications in Denmark and internationally. Within the field of media, business and political research, he has held positions such as business editor in one of Denmark's principal publishing houses, Berlingske Officin. Later, as the editor-in-chief of Børsen, he successfully re-launched this leading business daily. Since, he has initiated and held the title of editor-in-chief of the first Danish business weekly, Børsen's News Magazine and later CEO of Gutenberghus Publishing House in Denmark (today: Egmont).

One of the major initiatives developed and driven by Erik Rasmussen and Monday Morning is the Danish Innovation Council. This council brings together more than 400 leading personalities from Danish business life, political organizations, ministries and knowledge institutions. The focus and objective of the council is to ensure that Denmark and Danish companies retain the high level of global competitiveness that they experience today.

The latest project launched by Monday Morning is Co-existence of Civilizations, which is an ambitious venture towards establishing an international think tank embracing the World Economic Forum, Asia-Europe Foundation and The Nordic Council amongst others. His Royal Highness, Prince Hassan of Jordan is patron of the project.
