PRESS RELEASE: Copenhagen Summit to Add Business Voice to post-Kyoto Negotiations The United Nations Global Compact, the Copenhagen Climate Council, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and the Pew Center on Global Climate Change, will convene a World Business Summit on Climate Change in Copenhagen on 24-26 May 2009. The Summit aims to ensure that a new global policy framework on climate change takes into account the needs of the business community and provides the right incentives for cutting carbon emissions.

The conference, arranged by the Copenhagen Climate Council and the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS) of University of California, brings some of the world's foremost scientists together with industry and government leaders.

Innovation in Climate and Energy Some of the world's leading scientists will meet with industry leaders on 18-19 June at Copenhagen University to discuss innovation in climate and energy. They will be brought together in collaboration with the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS), a research center at the University of California. The aim of the event is to introduce a framework that will help uncover the interdependencies and trade-offs, choices and opportunities involved in new energy technologies to mitigate climate change effectively.

Call for leadership from science, business and government “In essence we must forge a new industrial revolution - one based on clean, efficient, energy sources – in just four decades. That will require new forms of leadership from science, business and government. We cannot let the difficulty be an excuse for disengagement and inaction. Instead it must be the driver for even greater effort. With the focus now on the UN meeting in Copenhagen, over the coming two years, as members of the Copenhagen Climate Council we will do all in our power to build a global consensus on the treaty to be agreed in 2009.
